Pipe Failure



A couple weeks ago we were testing some pipe we manufacture. On the 30" diameter pipe we had to pressurize it to 700 psi and hold it for 60 seconds. The pipe is only designed to handle 650 psi...after 30 seconds the pipe exploded. Check out the longitudinal crack on the pipe! Note that the bell also cracked in half.

I forgot to mention this is 1" thick iron it split to pieces. Water pressure is pretty powerful.

wow. that is pretty cool. did the pipe pass inspection or did it fail?

It failed.

What was the pressure at the point of failure?
